Mayor Bral Declares Local State of Emergency

As Mayor of the Village of Great Neck, I want to assure you that the first priority of government is public safety.

As we as a Nation, a State and a Village confront the evolving challenge of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), I have conferred with my partners in government regarding taking prudent measures.

My decision to proclaim a Local State of Emergency in our Village is not designed in any way to escalate fears, spread chaos or cause panic, but to quell the anxiety that arises in the wake of a Coronavirus threat by putting into place practical and necessary mandated procedures and protocols.

The ability to Declare a Local State of Emergency provides me, as Mayor, with the latitude to have jurisdiction over  implementing public protective measures ( e.g., controlling traffic, prohibiting ingress and egress into affected areas, suspending local laws, requesting supplemental assistance, and/or imposing a curfew.)

As public health officials have cautioned to limit social gatherings, I have decided to impose limitations on certain gatherings. I will release additional information on this shortly.  Please be assured that any limitations imposed will be done only for your safety.

Village staff are available by phone to assist you with any questions or concerns that may arise.  We will be constantly monitoring the outbreak, and continuously assessing the potential impact, and in turn providing notification updates to residents and the public.

It is my experience that in times of challenge and crisis the power we discover inside ourselves is limitless.

As a cohesive Village and community, we will get through this together.

Respectfully,

Pedram Bral, M.D.

Mayor, Village of Great Neck
